How “Stay-or-Pay” Contracts Are Used to Abuse Immigrant Workers

Shiny Lal is a nurse who came to the U.S. from India at the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic. In a new country facing an unprecedented virus, she dedicated herself to the difficult, dangerous work of front-line caregiving to create a better life for her family. But it wasn’t long before her American dream turned into a nightmare. Across the country, many people have expressed concern about how the Supreme Court’s decision not to review, or hear, the case at this stage could impact the right to protest. The ACLU, which asked the court to take up the case, breaks down what the court’s denial of review means. What Happened in Mckesson v. Doe? The case, Mckesson v. Doe , was brought by a police officer against DeRay Mckesson , a prominent civil rights activi...

Exploring the Metaverse

The Metaverse is a persistent online digital world. There is no agreed definition of what a metaverse is. There are many definitions, and many are speculative about technology that is still being developed. Generally, people agree that a metaverse is an online digital world populated with other users. Each user has a unique digital representation called an 'avatar'. Users use their avatars to interact with the metaverse and with other users. The goal is often to provide an experience that is as immersive as possible. This means that the goal is to make users feel like they are actually in the digital world, also known as the feeling of 'presence'. Most definitions agree that the key characteristic of a metaverse is its interactivity. The interactive elements are more important than the graphical quality of the experience. However, the graphics are still an important aspect of the metaverse, and advancements in technology are constantly improving these. Some people b...
